Intro to Yoga

Designed for those who have been curious, yet shy about joining a yoga class. We will start with the basics, learning body alignment, postures, breathing and relaxation techniques. This class is for beginners and safe for all ages.

Yoga for Back Care

In this class we will work with body mechanics and alignment as well as learn yogic postures to bring strength, flexibility, and toning to the core muscles that support the back.  This class is not intended for those who have had recent back surgery or for those suffering from an acute back injury.  Otherwise suitable for all levels.

Vinyasa

This is an intermediate level class that connects the postures into a flow that requires knowledge of the postures, strength and flexibility.  We will also be working with the breath.  At least six months yoga experience required.

Kundalini Meditation

Kundalini meditation provides us with techniques needed to remain still and peacful in our increasingly hectic world.  Each class will focus on a different meditation often using mantra (chanting), pranayam (breathwork), and mudras (hand positions); occasionally, we will be in specific yoga postures.  Wear loose, breathable clothing.  No meditation experience is necessary. Class will be taught by Sonya Theriault.

Qigong

Qigong (chi kung) is a traditional Chinese approach to self-healing and personal development. It employs mindful movement and meditative techniques to strengthen body, mind and spirit. Qigong promotes the cultivation and circulation of qi (life energy) by combining smooth repetitive movements with stillness and inner awareness. In this workshop we will explore a variety of simple Qigong exercises that should leave you relaxed, refreshed and energized.  Taught by Don McCarthy.
